On October 23, 2007, Canada, the European Union (with its 27 Member States), Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Swtizerland and the United States announced their intentions to draft an Anti Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) intended to provide a high-level international framework that strengthens the global enforcement of intellectual property rights.  Since that time, ICC BASCAP has been involved in the process by providing business input and guidance to ACTA negotiators.

Round 9:    ACTA Negotiations, June 28, 2010 - Lucerne, Switzerland
At the 8th round of negotiations in Wellington, New Zealand (below), the official current draft of the ACTA text was released and subsequently published on April 20, 2010.  BASCAP and INTA took the opportunity to add comments:

Round 8:    ACTA Negotiations, April 12-16, 2010 - Wellington, New Zealand
The 8th round of negotiations on the proposed Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) was held in Wellington, New Zealand from 12-16 April 2010, hosted by New Zealand. Participants were welcomed by New Zealand’s Minister of Trade Hon Tim Groser at a function attended by a wide range of stakeholders with an interest in the ACTA negotiations

Round 7:    ACTA Negotiations, January 26-29, 2010 - Guadalajara Mexico

The seventh round of negotiations on the proposed Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) was held in Guadalajara, Mexico, from January 26 to 29, 2010. Discussions were focused on civil enforcement, border measures, enforcement procedures in the digital age and transparency.

Round 6:    ACTA Negotiations, November 4-6, 2009 - Seoul, Korea

The sixth round of ACTA discussion held in Seoul on November 4-6, 2009 focused on enforcement in the digital age, criminal enforcement and transparency.

Round 5:    ACTA Negotiations, July 16-17, 2009 - Rabat, Morocco

ACTA discussions in the fifth round of negotiations in Rabat, Morocoo picked up on previously started discussions including international cooperation, enforcement practices and institutional issues.

Round 4:    ACTA Negotiations, December 15-18, 2008 - Paris, France

ACTA's fourth round of discussions took place in Paris, France and focused on criminal enforcement, existing approaches for dealing with IP infringements on the internet and international cooperation, enforcement practices and international institutional issues.
 

Round 3:    ACTA Negotiations, October 8-10, 2008 - Tokyo, Japan

Discussion on ACTA, the proposed Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, continued in Tokyo, Japan, October 8-10. Negotiations focused on criminal provisions of the proposed treaty. BASCAP, INTA and national anti-counterfeiting associations comprising the ACTA Business Response Group submitted a general paper to the head of agencies participating in the negotiations.

Round 2:    ACTA Negotiations, July 29-31, 2008 - Washington DC

Discussion on ACTA, the proposed Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, continued in Washington, D.C., July 29-31. Participants, who included Australia, Canada, the European Union, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, and the United States, welcomed the statement in the July 2008 G8 Toyako Summit Declaration that G8 Members support "the acceleration of negotiations to establish a new international legal framework, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), and seek to complete the negotiation by the end of the year".

Round 1:    ACTA Negotiations, June 3-4, 2008 - Geneva

On June 3 and 4 representatives from the EU and other economies held discussions on the proposed Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) at the U.S. Mission in Geneva. This was one of a series of meetings through which the participants plan to move negotiations on the agreement forward.
