An understanding of the international aspects of business law is essential to the conduct of responsible business. 
For more than 20 years, the ICC Institute of World Business Law has been instrumental in strengthening the link between
international business and the legal profession.

To contribute to the understanding and progress of international commercial law around the world and to encourage those
engaged in focused research on legal issues affecting international business, the renowned ICC Institute of Business Law has launched its Prize.  
€10 000 will be rewarded for a demonstration of excellent legal writing and outstanding new contributions
in the field of international commercial law including arbitration.

Held every two years, the 2009 edition has now been launched.

Launched in 2007, the first edition of the Institute's Prize was successful, the Institute received 11 entries in English and French from six countries spanning four continents. Candidates covered a wide range of topics on international business law, such as the Vienna Convention, international contract negotiation, international economic disputes at the WTO, and specific global issues in arbitration.

The inaugural Institute's Prize was awarded to Vincent Chantebout for his submission
"The prohibition of the review on the substance of the arbitral award". 
 A "special mention" was awarded to Charles-Emmanuel Côté for his submission "The participation of private persons in the settlement of international economic disputes: the enlargement of legal standing in the WTO"

The inaugural edition of the ICC Institute of World Business Law Prize has been a source of pride and pleasure for the organizing committee and jury,” said George Affaki, Head of Legal ECEP, BNP Paribas, France; Adjunct Professor of Law, University of Paris, France; and Vice-Chair, ICC Commission on Banking Technique and Practice. “We were delighted with the high number of submissions and their high academic standard. All of the entries showed the candidates had very promising academic or practitioner careers ahead of them.”
